Yiddish Theatre Workshop
on Zoom

Theatrical workshop facilitated by award-winning performer, director, and playwright, David Gale.
Students will work with original and translated Yiddish plays in a fun and engaging setting.

Exciting News for fall 2020: the Yiddish Theatre Workshop will be working with The Dybbuk by Sh. Ansky, adapted by Miriam Hoffman for the Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre in Montreal. This quintessential Yiddish tale of desire, darkness, and exiled spirits tells the story of love caught between two worlds, and a community torn between religion, superstition, and spiritualism. Two children, betrothed by their parents before birth, are drawn together years later in a desperate web of ill-fated love and possession.
All are welcome! Scripts are provided in transliteration,
and no previous Yiddish or performance experience is required.
Tuesdays, 7:00 – 8:30 PM EDT | Oct. 13 – Dec. 15, 2020
10 Classes | Cost: $160

Mayn Sheyne Meydl

The next session of the Yiddish Theatre Workshop is going to be zeyer freylekh!

Mayn Sheyne Meydl is a Yiddish adaptation of My Fair Lady. In our story Ester Tutvenig sells bagels on the Lower East Side and speaks a dreadful Yiddish. Renown teacher of phonetics Chaim Horovitz takes her on a pupil.  The play features unforgettable songs including: Dos Vet Zayn Gants Vunderlek, (Wouldn’t It Be Loverly) Ikh Koyf un Koyf,(The Rain In Spain) and Ikh Volt Getanst Di Nackht (I Could Have Danced All Night,) each given a delightful Yiddish translation.

You don’t need to be a singer or an actor
or speak Yiddish very well.
The script is in transliteration.
Tell your friends. All are welcome. We have fun.
For the love of Yiddish… sign up today!

Directed by David Gale
